Tampa, FL - On January 7, 2025, the Tampa Police Department was alerted to a skimming device found on an ATM at a 7-Eleven located at 1930 N. Dale Mabry Hwy. The discovery was made by a maintenance worker who reported it to authorities. During their investigation of this incident, officers received notification of another skimmer found at a different 7-Eleven location at 2717 W. Hillsborough Ave.

The police are actively investigating both incidents and have urged anyone who has used these ATMs recently to check their bank or credit card statements for any irregular activity.

Detectives provided advice on how individuals can protect themselves from credit card skimming:

"Regularly inspect ATMs before using them. Look for any signs of tampering, such as loose parts, misaligned card slots, or anything that appears to have been added or altered."

"Shield your PIN by covering the keypad with your hand while entering your code."

"Be wary of ATMs in unusual locations and avoid using ATMs in secluded or poorly lit areas."

They also suggested ways to minimize the risk:

"Monitor your bank and credit card accounts regularly."

"Check your statements for any unauthorized charges."

"Report any suspicious activity to your bank or credit card company immediately."

"Update your PINs and passwords frequently."

"Consider using a credit card with fraud protection."

Anyone who believes they may have been affected is encouraged to contact the Tampa Police Department at 813-231-6130 and refer to report number 25-14095.
