The City of Tampa's Department of Solid Waste has announced changes to its service schedule in anticipation of Hurricane Milton. The revised plan includes the suspension of garbage and recycling collection on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Residents are advised to bundle and cover any remaining curbside debris while awaiting city pick-up services. Additionally, they can bring debris to the McKay Bay Transfer Station at no cost.
The McKay Bay Transfer Station, located at 114 S. 34th St, will operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 7, and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8. It will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday. Yard waste and SWEEP services have been suspended until further notice.
Commercial collection services will continue through Tuesday, October 7, but will be suspended on Wednesday and Thursday. Downtown Tampa's commercial collection service (C2S) will run on Tuesday before being suspended for the following two days.
In response to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, blue dumpster containers have been placed in specific locations across Tampa for free disposal of storm debris still present at curbsides:
- 103 Bermuda Ave.
- 507 W Davis Blvd.
- 129 Adalia Ave.
- 155 East Davis Blvd.
- 106 Columbia Dr.
- 655 Geneva Pl.
These containers will remain available until Tuesday evening or as long as weather conditions permit. Larry Washington stated: "I believe if we all chip in a little, we can get the remaining debris collected ahead of Hurricane Milton. Neighbor’s helping neighbors is what makes our community great."
Residents are encouraged to download the Tampa Trash and Recycling app for real-time updates or contact the City of Tampa Utilities Call Center at (813) 274-8811 for more information.
