Ahead of Tropical Storm Milton, the City of Tampa Solid Waste Department has announced extended hours at the McKay Bay Transfer Station. This decision provides residents more time to dispose of debris left by Hurricane Helene.

The transfer station will be open to the public on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 7 AM to 7 PM. Residents are allowed to dispose of storm debris such as vegetative waste, damaged household items, and construction materials.

The City of Tampa Solid Waste Department is actively working with other city departments and contractors to clear curbside debris before Tropical Storm Milton arrives. Residents with remaining debris from Hurricane Helene are advised to either bundle and cover it while awaiting city pickup services or secure it in an enclosed area like a garage or shed. Alternatively, they can bring the debris to the McKay Bay Transfer Station at no cost.

For detailed information on accepted items and disposal requirements, residents can visit tampa.gov/solidwaste. New Tampa residents should contact Hillsborough County Solid Waste Management at (813) 272-5680 for their specific storm debris collection schedule.

Currently, Yard Waste and SWEEP collection services are suspended; however, garbage and recycling collections continue as usual. Any further suspension of services will be assessed as Tropical Storm Milton approaches.
