The City of Tampa is preparing for an upcoming severe weather event by opening sandbag sites for residents and business owners. On Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., individuals can fill sandbags at the Himes Avenue Complex (4501 S Himes Avenue) and Al Barnes Park (2902 N 32nd Street).

The National Weather Service has forecasted a heavy rain event that could impact the Tampa Bay area from Sunday through Thursday next week. Residents are advised to avoid driving through floodwaters and report any flooded streets or debris to (813) 274-3101. The Tampa Police and Mobility departments will collaborate to secure affected areas. Electric vehicle owners are encouraged to park on higher ground due to potential fire risks if batteries contact floodwater.

In response to the situation, the City of Tampa's three Comfort Stations remain open until further notice. These stations provide food, water, free laundry assistance, charging stations, and FEMA resources. They are located at DeSoto Park (2617 Corrine Street), Marjorie Park (97 Columbia Drive), and Gandy Civic Association (4207 W Oklahoma Avenue). Operating hours vary slightly between locations.

Residents can receive updates on storm-related information by signing up for free text alerts by texting TAMPAREADY to 888-777 or TAMPALISTA for Spanish alerts.
