The Tampa Police Department has announced the formation of the Chief’s Advisory Panel, a new initiative aimed at improving transparency, trust, and policing practices within Tampa. The panel is in accordance with Florida Statute 166.0486 and will review departmental policies and procedures to enhance police-community relations.

“The Chief’s Advisory Panel is another critical step in our ongoing commitment to making Tampa safer, together,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “By working collaboratively, we can gain valuable insights and ensure that our policies and procedures align with the needs and expectations of the public we serve.”

The panel will focus on four key areas: Community-Oriented Policing, Crime Reduction, Quality Assurance, and Wellness. By providing feedback directly to the Chief of Police, it aims to help improve service to the community and enhance public safety.

The inaugural members of the panel include Albert Cooke, Captain David Goodman (Tampa Police, Ret.), Irene Guy, Devon Ingandela, Andrew March, Lincoln Tamayo, and Carlos Valdes.

“We are grateful for the dedication and commitment of these seven community members who have agreed to serve on the inaugural Chief’s Advisory Panel,” added Chief Bercaw. “Their diverse backgrounds and experiences will undoubtedly contribute to the success of this important initiative.”

The first meeting of the Chief's Advisory Panel is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 6:00 pm in the Visit Tampa Bay TECO boardroom at 201 N. Franklin St., Suite 2900, Tampa.
