The City of Tampa's Stormwater crews are preparing for a weekend dedicated to clearing debris from drainage systems following the impact of Hurricane Helene. The hurricane brought tropical storm force winds, heavy rainfall, and flooding, leaving behind significant debris on roads, drains, and ditches.

Clearing this debris is essential to ensure that the Stormwater systems can function at their maximum capacity before the next storm. Clogged systems exacerbate flooding issues, which is why crews work year-round to maintain them as clear as possible.

After Tropical Storm Debby, the Stormwater teams removed approximately 84 tons of debris. Hurricane Helene is expected to have produced much more.

For further information or general questions, residents can contact the City of Tampa at 306 East Jackson Street, Tampa, Florida 33602 or by phone at (813) 274-8211.
