The City of Tampa is organizing an interactive training session aimed at empowering neighborhood associations and crime watch groups. The registration deadline for the event is Thursday, September 26.

Scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 9 AM to 2 PM, local volunteers and aspiring community leaders are invited to attend at the City Center on Hanna Avenue, located at 2555 East Hanna Avenue. This will be the first Board Leadership and Governance training offered by the city, providing practical guidance on running a volunteer nonprofit organization. The training is part of Mayor Jane Castor’s Neighborhood University Saturday Sessions, where residents can learn about city services and departments each month.

“Our city’s strength lies in our communities,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “By equipping local leaders with the skills they need, we’re ensuring that every neighborhood thrives and has a voice at the table. This training is a step toward a more unified and engaged Tampa.”

The program will be hosted by the City of Tampa Community Engagement and Partnership Department.

"We are committed to strengthening our communities by providing valuable resources and training to those who lead them," said Janelle H. McGregor, Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships. "Our goal is for participants to walk away with the confidence and competence to build stronger, more inclusive organizations.”

Dr. John Loblack, an expert in team building, leadership development, and nonprofit management, will lead the session. With years of experience in these fields, Dr. Loblack will provide hands-on training to help attendees develop their leadership and communication skills.

The event is free and open to the public; lunch will be provided for registered participants.

To attend, register by September 26, 2024, at tampa.gov/SaturdaySession.
