The City of Tampa will be unveiling and dedicating six new monuments at Veterans Plaza in Jim Walter Park today, May 29, at 10:30 a.m. The monuments honor World War II veterans Elco Bolton Sr., J.C. Bozeman Sr., David Bryant Sr., Ernest Sims, Donald B. Wilder Sr., and Reginald V. Williams. Five of these veterans are from Lincoln Gardens and one from Carver City.

Family members will attend the celebration to commemorate the contributions of these veterans. Jim Walter Park honors the veterans and families from World War II who played a significant role in establishing modern homes for African Americans. Due to the efforts of these military veterans and their families, the Veterans Administration developed Lincoln Gardens, the first planned Black subdivision in the Carver City area, during 1948-49.
