Tampa City Council Chairman Guido Maniscalco has announced the renaming of the dog park at Vila Brothers Park in honor of Sandra de Diego Sanchez, a beloved community advocate in West Tampa. The park will now be known as the "Sandra de Diego Sanchez Dog Park." Reflecting on Sandra's contributions, Chairman Maniscalco stated, "Sandra has made a lasting impact on our community, and it is only fitting that we honor her dedication and hard work in this way."

Sandra de Diego Sanchez, an 81-year-old West Tampa native, has been instrumental in fostering community engagement in the area. Her efforts, including the establishment of a Neighborhood Watch program, have significantly improved the quality of life in Armory Gardens Community. Recognizing her achievements, Sandra was awarded the District 1 Neighborhood Volunteer Award and played a key role in the formation of the Armory Gardens Civic Association.

Moreover, Sandra's advocacy extends to the revitalization of Vila Brothers Park, where she advocated for funding and amenities alongside Martha Vila, a member of the Vila family. The park, named after seven brothers who served in the military, holds special significance in the West Tampa community.

An animal lover and owner of two pets, Giuseppe and Rob Kitty, Sandra's dedication to her neighborhood and its residents has not gone unnoticed. The renaming of the dog park in her honor is a testament to her unwavering commitment to community betterment.

The renaming ceremony is set to take place on Saturday, March 23, at 10:00 am inside Vila Brothers Park, located at 700 N Armenia Ave. The event will feature speeches from various community representatives, including Council Chairman Maniscalco, members of the Armory Gardens Neighborhood Association, West Tampa Chamber of Commerce, West Tampa Community Redevelopment Area (CRA), a close friend of Sandra de Diego Sanchez, and the honoree herself.
