Tampa Police Detectives are investigating a shooting that took place early Sunday morning, resulting in one man being critically injured. The incident is considered isolated with no ongoing threat to the community.

The event occurred just after 6:00 am on July 20, 2025, when Tampa Police received ShotSpotter notifications about possible gunfire on the 3600 block of N. Whittier St. A subsequent call confirmed that a person had been shot at the same location.

Police officers arrived within four minutes and found an adult black male in his early 30s with a gunshot wound on Whittier St., north of 28th Ave. First aid was provided by officers until Tampa Fire Rescue transported him to a hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The investigation has revealed that two vehicles were hit by multiple rounds of gunfire, suggesting an exchange of gunfire took place at the scene. Detectives are working to identify those involved and understand the circumstances leading to the shooting.
