A DUI-related incident in Tampa has led to the arrest of three individuals, including the driver involved and two others who interfered with law enforcement at the scene. The crash occurred early Monday morning at the intersection of S. Howard Ave and W. Azeele St, leaving a pedestrian with severe injuries.

Chief Lee Bercaw commented on the incident, stating, “This horrific crash underscores the devastating and entirely preventable consequences of driving under the influence. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family as he begins the arduous journey of healing from these life-altering injuries.” He further emphasized that interfering with law enforcement during such investigations is unacceptable.

The incident took place around 2:50 AM on May 26, 2025. Richard Meadows III was identified as the driver of a white 2024 Toyota Camry that struck a 27-year-old pedestrian standing near a parked vehicle. The impact resulted in critical injuries for the pedestrian, including a severed leg.

Upon arrival, officers noted signs of impairment in Meadows and conducted a DUI investigation. Meadows was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI (Serious Bodily Injury). The injured man remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

During the investigation, tensions rose among friends of the victim present at the scene. Julian Jackson allegedly approached officers aggressively and engaged in physical altercations before being detained. Rashon Goode also attempted to interfere by grabbing an officer’s vest during Jackson’s arrest.

Jackson faces charges including Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting Arrest with Violence. Goode is charged similarly for his actions during the incident.

All three individuals were taken to Orient Road Jail following their arrests.
