Self-service sandbag stations in Tampa will continue operations on Thursday, July 17, 2025. The initiative follows a flood watch for the Tampa Bay area. Four sites have been set up: Al Lopez Park, Al Barnes Park, Copeland Park, and Himes Avenue Sports Complex.

Mayor Jane Castor emphasized the importance of preparation in her statement: “We understand the need to not only be prepared but also to be calm in a potentially stressful situation. These self-service sandbag stations offering free sandbags allow residents to prepare their properties for the incoming rain or, at the very least, stock up on sandbags now for future storms.”

The stations will open at 7:00 A.M and remain operational as needed. Residents are limited to 10 sandbags per household and must provide proof of residency within city limits. Assistance is available for those who require help with making and loading sandbags.

On Wednesday, over 2,200 sandbags were distributed across all locations. The Himes Avenue Sports Complex was notably busy, distributing nearly 1,200 bags in one day.

Residents can receive free text alerts by texting TAMPAREADY to 888-777 or TAMPALISTA to 888-777 for Spanish notifications.
