Tampa has been recognized by the Financial Times as the leading city in the United States for foreign businesses. The announcement was made as part of the latest FT-Nikkei Investing in America scores, marking the third annual report evaluating how overseas companies are performing in a dynamic economic environment.
The ranking considers several factors that make a city appealing to foreign investors, including workforce and talent, diversity, business environment such as taxes and incentives, and utility costs. This year introduced a new category: trade war resilience, assessing cities’ ability to withstand tariffs and trade wars.
The City of Tampa’s Department of Economic Opportunity collaborates with partners like the Tampa Economic Development Council to draw new businesses to the area. In 2023, Tampa appointed its first Small Business Navigator to assist entrepreneurs and small businesses by connecting them with essential resources.
Currently, there are about 22,000 businesses operating in Tampa.
