The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with CANDO’s Team Tampa Rowing and The Tampa Athletic Club, will host the seventh annual National Learn to Row Day on Saturday, June 7. The event will take place at the Tampa River Center.

This initiative offers a chance for both adults and children aged ten and above to try rowing. The event is free, but participants must sign up in advance at www.tampa.gov/row25. Michael Moseley, supervisor of the Parks and Recreation rowing programs, highlighted the benefits of rowing: “Rowing is a wonderful sport for fitness and for friendship,” he said. He noted its growing popularity nationally and particularly in Tampa due to local access to water facilities like the Tampa River Center.

The event can accommodate 120 participants, so early registration is advised. Four sessions are scheduled throughout the day from 7:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.

As part of their year-round programming, Parks and Recreation also offers a rowing summer camp for children in grades five through twelve. There are available slots in June and July; more details can be found at TeamTampaRowing.com.

Members of Team Tampa Rowing who recently secured their first state title will attend the event. Notably, two groups from Team Tampa Rowing have qualified for nationals following their success at Regionals; these competitions will take place from June 12-15 in Sarasota.
