The City of Tampa, in collaboration with the Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coalition, is set to host the 6th Annual Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony & Festival. This event will take place on Friday, June 13, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at City Center located at Hanna Avenue.
This community event is free and commemorates Juneteenth, a federal holiday that marks the end of slavery in the United States. The evening will include cultural celebrations, local entertainment, and a ceremonial flag raising.
The program will feature performances by the Bay Area Drum Academy and Majorettes. Additionally, the National Anthem will be performed by the Tampa Fire Rescue Hometown Heroes Chorus. Local Juneteenth Queens will be highlighted during the event, and the Blake High School Color Guard will present the Juneteenth flag.
“Juneteenth marks a turning point in our nation’s history, and it’s important that we take time to remember it,” stated Mayor Jane Castor. “Raising the flag together in East Tampa is a way for our city to show respect for our shared history and celebrate the progress we continue to make together.”
Attendees can also enjoy free food while supplies last and explore offerings from local vendors showcasing Black-owned businesses, artists, and designers from across the Tampa Bay area.
