The Tampa Police Department is set to conduct a specialized water training session for law enforcement canine units from the Tampa Bay area. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 10:00 am at Adventure Island water park, coinciding with the park's seasonal closure.
Given the numerous waterways in the region, K9 teams often need to be ready for aquatic searches involving criminals and missing persons. This training aims to enhance the K9s' comfort and proficiency in water-based searches, preparing them for real-world situations.
The exercises planned include tracking suspects through water and apprehending individuals who enter bodies of water. By introducing K9s to various environments, law enforcement agencies aim to equip their canine officers for diverse scenarios.
"The Tampa Police Department would like to thank Adventure Island for their ongoing support of this valuable K9 training initiative," a statement from the department reads. "Their generosity in providing this unique training environment is instrumental in ensuring the safety and well-being of communities in the City of Tampa and beyond."
