The Tampa Police Department has apprehended four individuals linked to a burglary at Hibbett Sports on October 10, 2024, which occurred in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.
"This case demonstrates the dedication and hard work of our officers in ensuring that those who take advantage of vulnerable situations, such as natural disasters, are held accountable,” stated Chief Lee Bercaw. “We are committed to protecting our community and holding those who would commit crime accountable."
On the night of October 10, officers responded to an alarm at the Hibbett Sports store located at 2525 E. Hillsborough Ave. They found that a vehicle had rammed into the storefront and merchandise worth thousands of dollars had been stolen. The stolen items included jerseys, shoes, and other clothing.
Through their investigation, police discovered that some stolen goods were being sold from a residence on N. 28th St. On October 16, officers conducted surveillance at this location and arrested Darryl Hill during a traffic stop nearby. Items confirmed as stolen during the burglary were recovered from him.
Further surveillance early on October 17 led to the arrest of Dalanish Weaver and Deontae Hill as they were seen discarding stolen items from the residence. Weaver is Darryl Hill's girlfriend, while Deontae Hill is his brother. Both were charged for their roles in the burglary.
A search warrant executed at the residence resulted in finding more stolen merchandise. Cheryl Hill, mother of Darryl and Deontae Hill, was also arrested in connection with the crime.
The Tampa Police Department continues its investigation and may file additional charges. Anyone with information is urged to contact Tampa Police referencing report number 24-617375.
