The Parks and Recreation Department in Tampa will offer a day camp titled “School’s Out, Camp’s In” for children aged 5 to 17 at 21 recreation centers. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 16, from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a drop-off deadline of 10 a.m.

Participation in the day camp is free. Children attending will be supervised and provided with lunch. Parents are encouraged to send their children with snacks and refillable water bottles.

“Many Tampa parents are returning to work, but schools are not yet ready to reopen,” said Parks and Recreation Director Tony Mulkey. “It’s a challenge, and we hope that providing this ‘School’s Out, Camp’s In’ session will help support families.”

The camp will be held at several locations across Tampa including Benito, Copeland, Cyrus Greene, Fair Oaks, George Bartholomew, Grant, Gwen Miller, Highland Pines, Jackson Heights, Kate Jackson, Loretta Ingraham, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Port Tampa, Ragan, Rey, Rowlett, Riverfront, Springhill, Temple Crest, Wellswood and Williams facilities.

Five sites remain closed: DeSoto (with an alternative site at Cyrus Greene), Forest Hills (Copeland), Friendship (Kate Jackson), Kwane Doster (Port Tampa).

For more information about the day camp program or other inquiries contact the department at (813) 274-5132 or visit them at their office located on East Jackson Street in Tampa.
