United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg has announced the unsealing of an indictment against Steven Dennis Mack, a 40-year-old resident of Tampa, Florida. Mack faces eight counts related to the receipt of child sexual abuse material. If found guilty, he could receive a sentence ranging from five to twenty years in federal prison for each count.

The indictment reveals that Mack allegedly received visual depictions of minors being sexually abused on various days in June and December 2023. The United States also intends to seize a cellphone and laptop reportedly used in the commission of these offenses.

It is important to note that an indictment serves as a formal accusation, and Mack is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case is being investigated by the United States Air Force Office of Special Investigations Detachment 340 at MacDill Air Force Base alongside the Tampa Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Ross Roberts will handle the prosecution.

This case forms part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at addressing child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project brings together resources from federal, state, and local levels to prosecute offenders and rescue victims. More information can be found at www.justice.gov/psc.
