Spartans Finish Off Florida Southern in Three Set Sweep

No.6 ranked Spartans beat Florida Southern in three set sweep at home.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

First Set: The game started with Nathaly Perez scoring the first point. It didn't take long for Florida Southern to answer back going up 6-3 early. Tatyana Lyons had a huge block assisted by Perez. It was back and forth majority of the set with each team matching the others intensity. A long rally from Tampa ended with a powerful kill by Mackenzie Dufresne which pumped some energy into the team and the crowd. Kalli Cors got the ball placed in the perfect spot for her to rack up three back to back kills. It was a close set but Tampa managed to close it out with a solo block by Lyons putting her at three this set. Score: 25-23 (Tampa)

Second Set: Second set started like the first with each team having something to prove. Their defenses stood strong making it difficult to score. Despite this, Tess Schrenger managed to find the weak spots of the defense. Jenna Vaske made her impact on the game with a forceful kill of her own. Two aces from Schrenger put Tampa up 19-16. While they were ahead, Tampa looked to close out the second set and achieved it after an ace by Cors. Score: 25-20 (Tampa)

Third Set: Florida Southern started the scoring for the third set. Dusfresne showed up early for Tampa with two kills. From here, Tampa started to pull away and never looked back. Dillon showed her dominance with each kill she had assisting her team get closer to the win. A kill from Dillon closed out the third set helping complete the three set sweep. 

Score: 25-17 (Tampa)

INSIDE THE STATS: 

  • Two Spartans finished with 10 or more kills: Cors (13), Schrenger (10)
  • Lyons led the team with three blocks
  •  Tampa finished with six serving aces
