Florida pro-life advocate supports school choice

A woman who advocated for life in many different areas said that parents having the right to choose their child's education is essential.

Teresa Miller said her sons, who are now in their 30s, went to a magnet school, which she said are typically put in areas that are struggling in Florida.

"And they got to really learn a lot about different cultures and different races," Miller said in an interview with Tampa Republic. "And there's a lot of things out there for minorities. And I think if some of the parents really value in education and they want to choose to send their kids to a different school, that maybe their neighborhood school doesn't offer some of the options in academics or technical careers that they want their children to pursue, I think it's great."

Miller said she would back a candidate who didn't support school choice simply because she focused more on nominees who were more supportive of life over other aspects.

"Yes, I have in the past, because to me, what's most important is that they support life — and being pro-life with the definition of being anti-abortion. So I've had to support some candidates who did not view the same things, whether it's about medical marijuana, which is one of my passions, that slapping a label 'medical' on a bag of pot doesn't make it medicine," Miller said. "And I've had to support candidates that disagree because to me, through God's eyes, life is the most important thing and we have to prevent — do everything we can to prevent the innocent killing of babies in the womb."

Miller said President Donald Trump has stretched above and beyond when it comes to supporting the pro-life movement.

"He's made it so that schools or insurance companies that have Catholics as members aren't forced to pay for abortions for other people," Miller said. "He's just done a tremendous amount of good for pro-life, but not just for pro-life, but for really our country and for unemployment, for everything he said he was going to do so, I'm excited to see him win."

Miller said she believes Trump will work hard and she prays he'll have fewer distractions during a second term.
