South Florida men’s tennis falls to Pepperdine despite two singles wins

The University of South Florida (USF) Men’s Tennis team recorded two singles victories but was defeated 5-2 by No. 25 Pepperdine in a match held Tuesday afternoon in Malibu, California.

USF secured its first point at the No. 2 singles position, where Elijah Cham won against Lasse Poertner with a score of 6-3, 6-3. The Bulls added another point when Stepan Mruzek prevailed over Maxi Homberg at No. 3 singles, also by 6-3, 6-3.

Pepperdine won the remaining singles matches to clinch the overall victory. In doubles play, Pepperdine took the point after winning two matches; one match was left unfinished.

The Bulls will next compete against Miami on February 10 in an away match.

Ashley Fisher is currently serving his ninth year as head coach for USF Men’s Tennis during the 2025-26 season. Under his leadership, the team has reached four NCAA Tournaments and advanced to the second round three times. Fisher received recognition as American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in both 2017 and 2019 after guiding USF to conference titles those seasons.
