The University of South Florida (USF) track and field team began its participation at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday. The team registered strong performances in sprints, middle distance, and field events, securing several podium finishes and personal records.
In the men’s 200 meters A Division, Shevioe Reid finished first with a time of 20.87 seconds. Nathan Metelus followed closely in second place with 20.97 seconds. In the women’s 800 meters A Division, junior Mercy Angaamchaab placed third with a time of 2:09.78, moving into seventh place on USF’s all-time indoor performance list.
Sophomore Felix Levasseur set a personal best in the men’s 800 meters open division by clocking 1:56.67. In the women’s long jump, Tristen Evatt posted an indoor personal best of 5.82 meters to finish eighth overall. Alessandro Cardoso-Williams led USF in the men’s long jump with a season-best mark of 7.14 meters for ninth place. Freshman Lilah Versluis achieved a personal record and secured fourth place in the women’s high jump after clearing 1.75 meters.
Other notable results included Malaysia Johnson finishing eighth (24.78 seconds) and Lynette Scutari ninth (24.85 seconds) in the women’s 200 meters A Division, while Doris Quainoo placed seventeenth (25.15 seconds) in the B Division.
USF will continue competing on Saturday, January 31, for day two of the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational and is also scheduled to participate at the Legends of Alachua County Invitational in Gainesville, Florida.
According to information provided by USF Track & Field, the men’s team won consecutive American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in 2024 and 2025 as well as claiming the 2024 AAC Outdoor Championship. Ten athletes earned All-America honors last season, including Shevioe Reid and Nathan Metelus among others. Romaine Beckford won NCAA indoor and outdoor national titles in men’s high jump for USF in 2023.
Additional individual accolades were awarded to Saminu Abdul-Rasheed as Indoor Most Valuable Performer for 2025 and Nikodem Pochopien as Freshman of the Year. The coaching staff received recognition as AAC Indoor Staff of the Year for both 2024 and 2025.
Since Erik Jenkins became head coach in July 2019, he has guided USF to seven program records and numerous top-10 marks during recent seasons.
