Members of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla are set to arrive in downtown Tampa today as part of the events leading up to the 2026 Seminole Hard Rock Gasparilla Pirate Fest. The group will formally summon Mayor Jane Castor for a ceremonial negotiation regarding the city’s symbolic surrender.

The pirates are expected to make their entrance by float, stage a mock raid on the mayor’s office, and then move to Lykes Gaslight Park. At noon, a theatrical meeting between the pirates and Mayor Castor will take place, marking the official start of this year’s Gasparilla festivities. This event is held ahead of the annual Gasparilla Invasion and Parade of Pirates scheduled for Saturday, January 31.

A noise advisory has been issued for today’s activities due to planned use of theatrical props such as simulated cannon sounds. Businesses and media in the area have been advised to prepare for increased noise levels.

Media representatives have been invited to cover the event but are asked to gather at Lykes Gaslight Park because space inside the Mayor’s Office is limited. Coverage will include footage of pirates and Mayor Castor walking across Kennedy Boulevard before addressing attendees at the park.

The City of Tampa will provide a livestream of “the Mayor’s Raid” on its Facebook page starting at noon.

Parking for media personnel will be available along Kennedy Boulevard between Franklin Street and Tampa Street.
