U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, who represents Florida’s 14th district in Congress, recently addressed her constituents through a series of posts on social media, touching on mental health advocacy and welcoming an international sports team to the Tampa Bay area.
On May 28, 2026, Castor marked the end of Mental Health Awareness Month by stating, “As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, I hope my neighbors know that there’s help available for those that need it. Mental health care is health care, and I pledge to support mental health coverage, providers and access always!”
Two days later, on May 30, she posted a message celebrating the arrival of Cabo Verde’s national football team in Tampa Bay ahead of their participation in the FIFA World Cup: “Welcome Cabo Verde to the Tampa Bay area! Blue Sharks will be right at home here. Good luck in the @FIFAWorldCup! https://t.co/m599Npw9eB” She also shared a similar greeting in Portuguese: “Bem-vindo #CaboVerde à região da Baía de Tampa! Os Blue Sharks vão se sentir em casa aqui. Boa sorte na @FIFAWorldCup!”
Castor has represented Florida’s 14th District since 2007 after succeeding Jim Davis. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Miami in 1966 and currently residing in Tampa, Castor holds degrees from Emory University (BA) and Florida State University (JD).
