Kathy Castor, who represents Florida’s 14th district in the U.S. Congress, recently made a series of public statements on Twitter regarding federal identification requirements and immigration policy, reflecting her active engagement in legislative matters. Castor, who has held her congressional seat since 2007 after replacing Jim Davis, maintains a focus on issues both local and national in scope.
On April 28, 2025, she reminded travelers heading to Tampa International Airport that starting May 7th, they should ensure their identification complies with federal law. She advised those needing to update their current IDs to a Real ID to visit a Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles location and bring necessary documents, such as a passport or birth certificate and Social Security number.
On the same day, Castor criticized the previous U.S. administration’s immigration policies. She stated, “The Trump Administration is lying through their teeth when they say they are pro-family, as President Trump has ripped a baby, who is still breastfeeding, away from her mother to fulfill his extremist deportation agenda.” She stressed the entitlement of Ms. Sánchez to due process in her legal proceedings.
Additionally, in a brief communication, Castor shared an alert via a link in another tweet, indicated with an emoji of a red alert sign.
Kathy Castor, born in Miami in 1966, graduated from Emory University in 1988 and earned a JD from Florida State University in 1991. She currently resides in Tampa, where her educational and professional journey has paved the way for her service in Congress.
