U.S. Representative Kathy Castor, who has been serving Florida’s 14th district since 2007, shared her views on several pressing issues via social media in June 2025. The congresswoman, known for her advocacy and commitment to her constituents, expressed concerns over a variety of topics ranging from public broadcasting to acts of violence against state legislators.
On June 12, Castor addressed the significance of public radio during hurricane season in Florida. She criticized President Trump’s proposal to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting by stating “Public radio is vital for Floridians during Hurricane Season.” She emphasized that this move could severely impact her community’s access to crucial news updates.
Two days later, on June 14, Castor commented on a tragic incident involving Minnesota state legislators. She condemned the act as “The political targeting and assassination of Minnesota state legislators by someone who exploited our trust in law enforcement is a horrific act of violence that will not be tolerated in America.” Castor assured that efforts would be made to bring those responsible to justice.
In another tweet posted later that day, she affirmed her commitment to democracy and thanked her local supporters. Her message was clear: “There are #NoKings in America.” She expressed gratitude towards her Tampa Bay neighbors and reiterated her dedication to fighting for their rights.
Kathy Castor was born in Miami in 1966 and currently resides in Tampa. She holds degrees from Emory University and Florida State University and has been an active figure in politics since replacing Jim Davis in Congress.
