U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, who represents Florida’s 14th district in Congress, recently posted a series of tweets addressing airline passenger compensation rules and commemorating community leader Mordecai Walker.
On September 5, 2025, Castor commented on changes to airline compensation regulations: “Stranded at the airport? Don’t expect to get your money back. President Trump just ended rules requiring airlines to compensate passengers for delays/cancellations they cause. Don’t blame your gate agents – blame President Trump.”
Later that day, she honored Mordecai Walker with two posts recognizing his leadership and resilience: “Mordecai Walker was an extraordinary leader, educator and pillar of the St. Petersburg community. Known for overcoming adversity and coming of age in an era of segregation, Mr. Walker acted with dignity and grace, showing respect to everyone around him even when he was not” (September 5, 2025), followed by “Known for overcoming adversity and coming of age in an era of segregation, Mr. Walker acted with dignity and grace, showing respect to everyone around him even when he was not afforded that same respect.” (September 5, 2025).
Kathy Castor has served as the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 14th District since replacing Jim Davis in 2007. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Miami in 1966 and currently residing in Tampa, Castor holds degrees from Emory University (BA) and Florida State University (JD).
