U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, who represents Florida’s 14th district in Congress, announced on July 23, 2025, that she is reintroducing the Keep Kids Covered Act to address concerns about children’s health care coverage.

In a series of posts on her official Twitter account, Castor wrote: “/ I am not going to sit back and watch President Trump and Congressional republicans kick our kids off health care. I am fighting back with my Keep Kids Covered Act.” This statement was posted on July 23, 2025.

She continued her announcement the same day by stating: “I am reintroducing my Keep Kids Covered Act to provide continuous health care coverage for eligible children in Medicaid & CHIP so children don’t pay the price for Trump’s cruelty.”

Detailing the provisions of the proposed legislation, Castor explained: “/ My Keep Kids Covered Act with @RepDerekTranCA would expand the 12-month continuous eligibility (CE) protection for children, providing uninterrupted coverage for children until age 6 – a crucial time for their development – and for a 24-month period for children age 6 to 19.”

Kathy Castor has represented Florida’s 14th district in Congress since replacing Jim Davis in 2007. She previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Miami in 1966 and currently residing in Tampa, Castor holds a BA from Emory University and a JD from Florida State University.
