U.S. Representative Kathy Castor, who has been serving Florida’s 14th district since 2007 after succeeding Jim Davis, took to social media to express her dedication during an extensive legislative session. Born in Miami and currently residing in Tampa, the 56-year-old Congresswoman holds a BA from Emory University and a JD from Florida State University.

On May 14, 2025, Castor highlighted the prolonged duration of the @EnergyCommerce markup session, which had exceeded 20 hours at that point. She emphasized her commitment by stating: “AND the @EnergyCommerce markup is still happening (over 20 hours)! I will not stop fighting for my Tampa Bay neighbors. Lives depend on it!”

Later that day, Castor shared another update after more than 25 hours into the session. Her focus was on convincing Republican colleagues about the importance of their constituents’ welfare. She remarked: “It’s been over 25 hours and I am still trying to convince my Republican colleagues that our neighbors matter. See them. Listen to them. Empower them. Don’t rip away their health coverage for a tax break for the wealthy.”

By early May 15, Castor continued to voice her persistence in advocating for healthcare matters within the committee meeting that had stretched over a full day and beyond. She affirmed: “Fighting for you for 26 hours and 26 minutes in @EnergyCommerce. #MedicaidMatters”
