U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, who represents Florida’s 14th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on May 8, 2026, addressing economic pressures facing small businesses in Florida, energy costs for consumers, and her legislative efforts to improve medication safety for mothers and babies.
In a tweet dated May 8, 2026, Castor wrote: “Small businesses in Florida paid an additional $153,000 in Trump tariffs in 2025. Now, gas prices are skyrocketing, making transporting goods and services even more expensive. Small businesses are caught between raising prices and laying off hardworking employees.”
Later that day, she commented on her advocacy for affordable energy solutions: “Exactly why I work for lower cost solar, energy efficiency, home upgrades + ‘ethics in energy’ so utility monopolies and politicians in FL don’t continue to saddle you with higher bills!”
In another post from the same date ahead of Mother’s Day, Castor highlighted bipartisan legislation aimed at improving health outcomes for mothers and infants: “Ahead of Mother’s Day, I’m so proud to reintroduce the bipartisan Advancing Safe Medications for Moms and Babies Act. Pregnant and lactating mothers need to be included in clinical research. It keeps them and their babies safe.”
Kathy Castor has served as the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 14th district since 2007 after succeeding Jim Davis. She previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Miami in 1966 and currently residing in Tampa at age 56, Castor holds a BA from Emory University (1988) and a JD from Florida State University (1991).
