U.S. Representative Kathy Castor, who has served Florida’s 14th district in Congress since 2007 after succeeding Jim Davis, recently expressed concerns and criticism of certain actions by the Trump Administration through a series of social media posts. Castor, a native of Miami and resident of Tampa with a background in law from Emory University and Florida State University, turned to social media to highlight issues related to public health, transportation funding, and family separations.
On May 2, 2025, Castor commented on environmental health concerns regarding children’s exposure to air quality. She stated “Our kids deserve to breathe clean air where they learn and play – including when they take the bus to school.” Castor criticized former President Trump’s decision to “freeze federal funding for electric school buses,” indicating it “puts our kids in danger.” She urged taking stands for children’s welfare, public health, and environmental preservation.
Later that day, Castor met with Carlos Sánchez, whose family has been affected by policies of the Trump Administration. She described the encounter on social media, stating “Their story is not only upsetting but infuriating. The Trump Administration is ripping families apart for political games.” Castor pledged that they are pursuing every measure to reunite the family, though they are still awaiting a response.
She reiterated these sentiments in a follow-up post in Spanish, reflecting the bilingual nature of her constituency. Castor wrote, “Hoy me reuní con Carlos, el esposo de Heidy Sánchez. Su historia no solo es perturbadora, sino también indignante.” The post also highlighted her commitment to reuniting the Sánchez family amid ongoing challenges.
