Congresswoman Laurel Lee, representing Florida’s 15th district since 2023, recently shared several updates through her social media platform. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, and currently residing in Tampa, Lee has a legal background with degrees from the University of Florida.
On May 12, 2025, she tweeted about National Police Week. “This week, we celebrate National Police Week,” she stated. She emphasized the importance of honoring law enforcement officers for their daily sacrifices to protect communities. She expressed gratitude for their commitment and courage while reaffirming her support by stating she will always “#BacktheBlue.”
The following day on May 13, Lee announced the introduction of the Lieutenant Osvaldo Albarati Stopping Prison Contraband Act. “Today, I introduced the Lieutenant Osvaldo Albarati Stopping Prison Contraband Act to tackle the growing threat of illegal cell phones in federal prisons,” she wrote. The bill aims to criminalize smuggling phones into prisons as a felony and proposes enhanced penalties along with a comprehensive review process.
Later that same day, Congresswoman Lee paid tribute to military personnel during Military Appreciation Month. “During Military Appreciation Month—and always—we honor the service and strength of our military community,” she noted. She extended her thanks for their service and dedication.
Laurel Lee began serving in U.S Congress after replacing Scott Franklin in 2023. Prior to this role, she served in the Florida House of Representatives and has been actively involved in legislative activities concerning law enforcement and national security issues.
