Step back in time and explore Tampa’s history during Archives Awareness Week 2025. The City of Tampa, along with local cultural institutions, will honor Tampa’s 138th birthday with a series of free events, guided tours, and special exhibits.

Residents are invited to learn about the people, places, and stories that have shaped the community over the past 138 years. Established in 1992, Archives Awareness Week aims to highlight the role of archives in preserving Tampa’s legacy. The events include visits to historic cemeteries and cigar factories.

This year’s schedule offers various activities such as cake celebrations, tours, hidden history explorations, and a brunch with mimosas.

Event highlights include:

– Sunday, July 13: At 1:00 PM, visit Henry B. Plant Museum for “Manhood at Work in 1925.” At 3:00 PM, tour Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
– Monday, July 14: At 3:00 PM at City of Tampa Archives celebrate former City Clerk Frances Henriquez.
– Tuesday, July 15 (Tampa’s Official Birthday): At 11:00 AM tour J.C. Newman Company. At 6:00 PM visit Tampa’s Black History Museum.
– Wednesday, July 16: At 5:30 PM commemorate Booker T. Washington School’s anniversary at Tampa’s Black History Museum.
– Thursday, July 17: Visit USF Libraries at 11:00 AM and view historical artifacts at Tampa International Airport from 5:00–8:00 PM.
– Friday, July 18: Celebrate with new markers at Marti-Colon Cemetery at 11:00 AM. Tour “Invisible Immigrants” exhibit at Tampa Bay History Center at 2:00 PM.
– Saturday, July 19: Attend Dr. Sarah McNamara’s talk at Centro Asturiano at 11:00 AM. Learn about historic maps at John F. Germany Library at 3:00 PM.
