The City of Tampa is organizing its first “Rooted in Tampa: Tree Town Hall” on Saturday, January 17, 2026. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City Center at Hanna Avenue, located at 2555 E. Hanna Ave.
The town hall aims to engage residents in discussions about Tampa’s urban tree canopy and present recent data on tree coverage across the city. City staff will share findings from a new tree canopy analysis that identifies areas where trees are thriving and spots that need more shade.
Experts including arborists, planners, and sustainability professionals will speak about how trees benefit public health and identify locations where additional planting is needed on both public and private land. They will also explain how the city manages tree planting and maintenance along streets, parks, and neighborhoods.
Residents attending the event can learn about free tree programs available in Tampa, get advice on choosing suitable trees for their properties, and receive guidance on long-term care for healthy growth.
Mayor Jane Castor encouraged community participation by stating: “Whether you own a home, rent, or simply care about Tampa’s green spaces, this event offers a chance to learn about the benefits trees can have on your neighborhood and quality of life. We hope residents will come out to ask questions, share feedback, and help the city make decision that will impact all parts of Tampa.”
The event will end with an interactive open house featuring booths from various city departments and community partners. There will be hands-on demonstrations related to tree care as well as activities for families.
For more information or general inquiries about the event or city services, residents can contact the City of Tampa at (813) 274-8211 or visit their office at 306 East Jackson Street.
