The Tampa Police Department is investigating a bank jugging theft that took place on the afternoon of Friday, April 5th, 2024. According to reports, the suspect followed the victim from a bank on W. Kennedy Blvd. and later broke into the victim's truck to steal the cash.

In a statement released by the Tampa Police Department, it was explained that "‘Bank jugging’ is a term used when criminals target people who withdraw cash from banks or ATMs. These criminals watch for individuals leaving with bank envelopes or bags, then follow them to steal the money."

The suspect, described as a black male aged approximately 18-25 years old, was captured on video surveillance. He was seen wearing a blue disposable mask, white hoodie, and yellow & black gloves while driving a white Kia Sportage. The authorities suspect that he may be part of a group that travels between Houston and Tampa Bay to commit similar crimes.

Tampa Police Detectives are collaborating with the Houston Police Department in this investigation. They urge anyone with information on the suspect to contact Tampa Police at 813.231.6130 or Crimestoppers of Tampa Bay at 800.873.TIPS.

The Tampa Police Department is advising the community to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid falling victim to bank jugging. Some safety tips suggested by the authorities include not displaying large sums of cash in public, varying routines when visiting banks, being alert for suspicious individuals, and promptly depositing large sums of cash.

In light of this incident, the Tampa Police Department is reminding individuals that if they suspect they are being followed, they should "drive to a well-lit, populated location, and call the police."
